NASA decided that because of a lot of interest in this event, we will allow non-Native UCSD students to join us on our trip. We will be selecting about 5 applicants who are not involved in NASA to join us.

AIR SDSU March 5th

03/05/2012

Hey Folks,  Just a reminder that we will continue our AIR Sr. program at San Diego State University tomorrow (3-5-12).  We realize that USD students will have Spring Break this week (enjoy) but for those who can make it we appreciate you working through the break.   For our SDSU and USD mentors we will be meeting at  PSFA 310.  If you can make it a little early (around 4:10 pm) we can prep for the meeting and for our SDSU mentors who want to volunteer within our program this will give us an opportunity to meet and give you any additional information packets that will help you.

Attached is our weekly bulletin for the meeting (with directions) any additional questions or for any more information please email me back and remember to check our facebook for any last minute instructions (just in case).

Sincerely,

Dear Community Partners and Supporters,

We are proud to announce our spring programs that are starting today with our AIR tutorial program.  We are very grateful for all the community support that has kept our program in operation for 19 years.   A lot has changed within our programs but a lot has not changed within education.

We are in belief that education is important for our student participants and their ability to use their knowledge within our own Native communities for a greater future.  Therefore, we continue to offer our AIR Sr. Program and tutorial programs as our main after school programs but this year we will be bring back our AIR Jr. Program targeting our 6th through 8thgrades Native students at CSUSM.

We are having tremendous success these last few years with our students and this is primarily due to a tremendous volunteer staff that is committed in having our students reach their greatest potential.  Already some of our students have letters of acceptance to 4 year universities.  We are proud of the many who have gone through our program and look forward to a great spring semester.

Attached is our Spring Programs which can be downloaded from our Website (for a higher quality flier, visit our website: www.airprograms.org on the front page of the website hit AIR Spring 2012).

Thank you for all your support, making our advocacy and service to Native youth possible.  We look forward to seeing you this Spring!

Sincerely,
Dwight K. Lomayesva

Hello California Native American Day Committee:

I wanted to let you all know that the UCSD Talent Search program, now works with Mountain Empire high school!  If you know any families from that area (Pine Valley / Descanso) that have students enrolled in Mountain Empire high school, please let them know about our program.  We admit students from 9th - 12th grade, and we work primarily with low income students, but all students are welcome to apply!  Our goal is to work with students during high school to keep them on track for high school graduation, college entrance and college graduation.

I have attached a brochure and a UCSD Talent Search program application.  More information can also be found on our website: http://trio.ucsd.edu

Each year about 75% of our seniors enroll in college after high school graduation!

In order to get the word out about our program, Talent Search staff have participated in local area events, talked to parents at the parent nights and have been working with the school counselor, Peter Krahling to identify students.  However, if you know any families that can benefit from our college advising, Saturday workshops and other free college-related events, please send them our way!

We have plenty of space in our program and are always looking for high school students who want to attend college, but maybe have a need for more tools, resources or guidance to make sure they are on track to complete all the requirements.  Colleges and universities also look favorably on student's participation in TRIO programs such as Talent Search.  Students must attend one of the following four high schools in order to be in the UCSD Talent Search program: Mount Miguel HS, Monte Vista HS, El Cajon Valley HS and Mountain Empire HS.

Thank you for helping us promote college going with local area high school youth!
